With the blessings of Param Pujya Shri. Anirudhha Joshi (Bapu) and great inspiration and support from Pt. Nilkanthbuva Abhyankar, Shri. Shriniwas Shindagi and Shri. Prabhakar Shendye, KALANGAN was founded by Smt. Varsha Bhave on January 31, 1998.

Founder, Director, Trustee of Kalangan - Smt. Varsha Bhave   Varsha Bhave inherited musical legacy from her grandmother, the renowned vocalist Smt. Indirabai Khadilkar and great grandfather Natyacharya Kakasaheb Khadilkar. She received her preliminary training in music from revered Gurus like Shri. Manohar Potdar, Shri. Shende and Shri. Chintubuva Mhaiskar. She was then trained for 16 years under the able guidance of Pt. Neelkanthbuva Abhyankar. She has also received guidance in natyasangeet from Smt. Jayamala Shiledar and Smt. Kirti Shiledar alongwith guru Shri. Bhalachandra Pendharkar. At present, she is receiving guidance from Pt. Shankarrao Abhyankar.


Musical Qualification - M. A. in Vocal music from S.N.D.T. University in 1984.

  • Numerous classical music performances all over the world.
  • Participated in several music festivals, Radio and Television shows and also in some prestigious stage shows such as "Baithakichi Lavni", "Devgaani" and "Natyasangeetache Shilpakar" produced by NCPA. Mumbai.
  • Performed lead roles in plays like "Sanjeevani", "Mandarmala", "Subhadra" produced by Bhave Natya Mandir.
  • Much acclaimed role of "Rukhmini" in the the play "Swayamvar", produced by Deval Smarak Mandir.
  • Performed in "Baithakichi Lavni" and "Devgani" - programmes of N.C.P.A.
  • Rendered her voice for albums "Paalkhichya Sange" & "Abhijat Natyasangeet", "Aatmanaad", "Swapnanchya Manaraivar"
  • Wrote an yearly column "Niragas" for children in the newspaper "Tarun Bharat" (Mumbai).
  • Composed, songs for children, Spiritual songs of Dr. Anirudhha Joshi, and albums "Upasana-Sadhana-Aradhana", "Chand se Baatein", "Rashtrabhaktidhara".


Awards and Accolades -

  • Received numerous awards as best singer & best actress for her lead roles in many musical dramas on the Akashwani and Doordarshan.
  • Award for the portrayal of Rukmini's character in "Sangeet Swayamvar" in 1995, and the Natyaparishad award in 1996 for the same.
  • "Natyadarpan award" in 1997 for her outstanding work in Natyasangeet.
  • The prestigeous "Sangeetkar Ram Kadam Gaurav Puraskar" in 2003-04.
  • Award for excellence in the field of music by Sanskar Bharati, Sangli in 2004.
  • Receipient of the "Annasaheb Ghatge Award", named after famous film producer Shri. Annasaheb Ghatge, Sangli in 2009.
  • The "Samaj Shakti" award by "Hariharputra Bhajan Samaj", Mumbai for her excellence in performing arts.

Varsha Bhave believes that in today's times, there is a need to find innovative ways of making young people aware of and appreciate the rich tradition of arts in India. She believes that Kalangan can play a key role in realizing this vision. By blending Indian music, dance and theatre together, her aim is to bring these performig arts under one roof and form a university that would propogate these arts worldwide.



Trustee, Honorary Treasurer - Shri. Milind Bhave.

Trustee, Honorary Treasurer of Kalangan - Shri. Milind Bhave   Shri. Milind Bhave holds a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from U.D.C.T. Mumbai. He has also completed the "Management Education Programme" - I.I.M. Ahmedabad.

In his illustrious carrer, he has worked in various departments like Development, Design, Project & Process for reputed Chemical & Project companies.

His hobbies include singing light classical, light music, Ghazals etc. and photography.

From its inception, he has been a pillar of support, as well as a friend, phillosopher and guide for Kalangan.

Trustee, Honorary Secretary of Kalangan - Shri. Kamlesh Bhadkamkar   With a distinctive style, unlimited talent and sheer hard work; Kamlesh has created a niche for himself in the field of music. He has worked with many renowned artists of our music industry and has numerous prestigeous projects as a music composer to his credit. He is also receipient of several awards.

Kamlesh is the director of his music company - "Manasa Music"
( www.manasamusic.com ) and has produced melodic and truely enjoyable music of various genres ranging from Indian classical music to light music, bhajans, natyasangeet, children's rhymes and so on.

Kamlesh has been associated with Kalangan since its inception and ever since, has been an integral and all important part of every activity of Kalangan.

Honorary Advisor of Kalangan - Pt. Yashawant Deo   Pt. Yashwant Deo is one of the most renowned and versatile music directors of his era. He is a Sangeet Visharad (Sitar) from Gandharva Mahavidyalay. He has worked for Akashwani - Dharwad, Nagpur and Mumbai Vividhbharati stations as a senior grade producer, light music department. He has written and composed songs for Akashwani, Doordarshan, plays and movies. He regularly conducts lecture-demonstrations all over the world on light music. He also conducts a two-year diploma course in "Shabdapradhan Gayaki" at Ranga sharada Sangeet Vidyalaya, Bandra. His programmes "Dev-Gani", "Dev-Vani" have received wide acclaim. He has graced memberships of advisor committees of many of the government institutions. He has received many prestigeous awards for his excellence in the field of music. He has also published books on various subjects and the books have received wide acclaim.

Honorary Advisor of Kalangan - Pt. Ulhas Bapat   Pt. Ulhas Bapat is a renowned musician with exquisite artistry exceptional skill & innovative approach. He is a highly accomplished santoor player who has made his mark in the competitive world of music. He is a disciple of Sarod Maestro Smt. Zarin Sharma Pt. K.G.Ginde and Pt.Wamanrao Sadolikar. He is the only Santoor player who has adopted the technique of tuning the instrument in "Chromatic" structure, and has pioneered a modification, which enables him to reproduce a "Meend" on Santoor. This patented innovation has helped to extend the frontiers of Santoor to make it more appealing as a concert instrument, and this unique technique brings a masterly individuality in his performances. He is a Top Grade Artiste of All India Radio and a regular performer for AIR & Doordarshan. He has been internationally acclaimed as an accomplished Santoor player and a versatile musician. He has kept up a steady stream of concert appearances all over India interspersed with concert tours abroad such as in U.S, Canada, U.K, Germany, Italy, Switzerland - Winterthur, China, Belarus, Finland, Middle East etc.

His invited participation in "The Presidents Meet - 2000" in China with renowned violinist Dr. L. Subramanium, speaks for the respect he carries in India and abroad. Apart from his contributions to the international music as a musician, an impetus for his creativity was his composition for a Dance Script "Ganges to Nile" produced by "Anurekha Ghosh & Co. UK". He has to his credit many Cassettes and Compact Discs. His latest releases include "Atha Dhyanam", "Felicitation" and "Swakrut" by Anannya Creations and "Rejuvenate" by Times Music.
